Machinery system life cycle varies from 20 to 25 years on average, but it is crucially important to know the status and performance of the system to optimize its operations and to plan maintenance. Dr. E. Horn GmbH & Co. KG’s new monitoring system includes up to 72 various sensors allowing it to receive data about each engine’s compartment and obtain a full overview of the engine’s system condition. The monitoring system detects failure before the actual damage happens and thereby prevent serious accidents and enable predictive maintenance. It helps to reduce maintenance work to what is needed and even prevent a complete breakdown of an engine that can lead to serious consequences and large financial losses. 

X2 pro web with extended marine certification

Dr. E. Horn GmbH & Co. KG was looking for a technical solution that combines multiple endpoints into one by thus allowing to receive and display information from distance, temperature, water, and oil sensors. 

The Bearing Distance and Monitoring system by Dr. E. Horn GmbH & Co. KG consists of sensors which are connected to a sensor box. The sensor box acts as a data collection and data transfer unit. It reads and tracks the information from sensors and provides the sensor information to a monitoring unit. In its turn, the monitoring unit, usually located in the engine room, compares the sensor data with defined alarm limits of the engine manufacturers. If the limits are critical, the related alarm is raised indicating the problem. 

The X2 pro web with a 10-inch touch screen and built-in HTML5 web client was a perfect choice for the application allowing easy access and web-based visualization of data such as event memory, data log, trend analysis and real-time monitoring from the Bearing Distance and Monitoring system. Moreover, X2 pro web allowed the customer to develop and run their own software, fully independent from proprietary third-party application software. 

Another main criterion required by the customer was the availability of marine approval certificates. Therefore, Dr. E. Horn GmbH & Co. KG decided to go with a branded 10’ inch X2 pro web HMI panels with extended marine approval certificates. X2 pro web certificates conform to rigorous safety and regulatory standards approved by international maritime regulations. It confirms that X2 pro web by Beijer Electronics has passed a series of checks, tests, and trials and is approved for use on vessel’s board.
