Fesapak Makina opted for a cost effective motion control in their packaging solution

Fesapak Makina packaging solution was established in Izmir, Turkey in 1995 providing production and technical support on packaging machines. Their customers package consumer gods for example sugar, coffee, and nuts. Listening to the market demand, Fesapak Makina decided to launch a new product line of horizontal packaging machines, featuring high-speed packaging with precision control increasing capacity up to 40 % compared to their previous vertical version.

The need of complex motion control

The new horizontal machine in Fesapak Makina’s line is an extension to their existing broad portfolio within packaging machinery. The innovation was sprung from customers need for a compact machine able to handle different sorts of dry goods. The new design required an advanced motion control with new types of cam control.

Fesapak Makina was already familiar with X2 HMI panels using iX developer software, and with the requirements, the collaboration with Beijer Electronics continued. Discovering CODESYS in combination with the BoX2 pro motion controller, Fesapak Makina was able to accomplish advanced motion control with the existing third-party servo system and motors. Since BCS Tools and iX developer are both open and flexible software, this solution supports their vision of delivering an open solution to their customers. The result was a compact yet very complex application.

Controlling the packaging process

The Box2 pro motion solution controls the conveyor belt speed and synchronizes the rotating knife via an encoder to cut the material for individual packages at exact precision at high speed. Servo motors defines the speed not only the rotating knife, but also the conveyor belt. The solution utilizes both advanced speed- and cam control defined with CODESYS in BCS Tools. The BoX2 pro motion controller communicates with the third-party servo system and external sensors via EtherCAT IO modules from Beijer Electronics.

Local monitoring and remote maintenance

To monitor the process Fesapak Makina has equipped their machines with X2 HMI panels which allow the operator to have full insight into the machines operations and to add and adjust parameters for different production batches. Through a detailed alarm system in the X2 HMI panel which is connected to the internet through a Korenix 2005 switch, data is being sent directly to Fesapaka Makina. The connection allows remote maintenance for their customers reducing downtime and production losses.

“We appreciate the user-friendly software and the esthetical look and feel of the Beijer HMIs. And none the least the resolution of the HMIs are perfect! The continuous collaboration with Beijer Electronics opens up to other opportunities, and we know we can trust Beijer’s products and solutions.” says Özkan Akın, Owner of Fesapak Makina.

Collaboration and support

The high quality products, service and support has been key for Fesapak Makina when selecting their partners. “We are extremely pleased with the service and application that we received from Aytek Automation of Beijer Electronics.” says Özkan Akın, Owner of Fesapak Makina.  “We appreciate the user-friendly software and the esthetical look and feel of the Beijer HMIs.
