Application challenge

Installations within the energy sector requires data communication switches to run IEC61850 energy protocol over long distances with no operational disturbances e.g., by thunder. The IEC61850 is an international standard defining communication protocols for intelligent electronic devices at electrical substations.

Solution

DIN-rail JetNet managed switches and rackmount managed switch with fiber installation connects RTUs, X2 HMI panels and Beijer remote IO together with a SCADA system to control the power load in a Swedish power distribution net.

Result

The customer was able to implement a secure and divided installation to secure up-time and performance by a flexible network with high throughput handling the IEC6180 protocol to 48 substations and subnetworks.
